The Upper West chapter of Bissa Development Association has announced free bus transportation for community members wishing to attend Zekula festival on Saturday.
The gesture, aimed at ensuring no Bissa is left behind due to the cost of travel, marks a growing goodwill initiative surrounding this year’s festival, which is expected to be one of the most attended editions.
The Upper West region hosts a large Bissa membership, and its members join a growing list of participants expected to make the much-anticipated return to Bissaku for the annual Zekula, which was cancelled last year due to insecurity in the Bawku area.
The regional BDA says the free transport initiative is open to all community members regardless of age, with priority given to the elderly and persons with disability.
Zekula 2026, the annual festival of the Bissas, will take place at Kulungungu, the traditional capital of Bissas in Ghana.
Interested passengers are urged to register early, as seats are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The bus is expected to depart from a central point in Wa in the early hours of Saturday morning, arriving in Kulungungu well ahead of the official opening ceremony.
Zekula is an annual celebration organised by the Bissa Development Association to honour Bissa heritage, promote cultural pride, and strengthen community bonds across all regions of Ghana where Bissas are found.
