Yahaya Zanni: BDA secretary voted Northern Regional Chairman of TEWU

The Northern Regional Secretary of the Bissa Development Association, Dahaman Yahaya emerged victorious as the newly elected Regional chairman of  Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

In was a landslide victory for Yahaya in the two horse race held in Tamale on October 17,  as he  secured an impressive 166 votes, defeating his only contender, Andulai Baba Stanley, who garnered 45 votes.

The election  witnessed an enthusiastic participation of teachers and educational workers from across the region and it was   the Bissa man who won the overwhelming endorsement to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.

With extensive experience in the field, Yahaya, who is the Municipal Administrative Officer at the Sagnarigu Municipal Education in the northern Region, expressed his gratitude to the voters for their trust and confidence in his leadership abilities.

In his victory speech, he emphasised the significance of unity among members and pledged to champion the rights and welfare of teachers and educational workers throughout the region.

“I am deeply honoured to have been elected as the chairman of the Northern Regional Branch of TEWU. I will work tirelessly to address the concerns and challenges faced by our dedicated educators and ensure their voices are heard,” Yahaya stated passionately.

The electoral process was conducted with the utmost transparency and fairness, demonstrating the commitment to democracy and the importance of union representation.

Yahaya’s victory signifies a new era of representation and advocacy for the Northern Region’s educators and educational workers. As the newly elected chairman, he plans to prioritise issues such as fair wages, improved working conditions, and opportunities for professional development within the field of education.
