The Sinatare Zone of the Bissa Development Association (BDA) in Greater Accra is the latest to join the donation spree pouring in from various quarters towards the landmark 20th anniversary celebrations of the iconic Zekula Festival happening on May 4th in Kulungungu.
The Mamobi-based group has presented an amount of GHS 550 to the official Momo account, becoming the second Greater Accra BDA branch to donate after the Madina Zone.
Other institutions, like the Tamale BDA branch and Gomoa Fetteh Bissa Palace, have also sent in funds.
With the BDA launching a crowdfunding appeal ahead of Zekula@20, both individuals and organisations have stepped up efforts to ensure the successful hosting of this pinnacle cultural celebration first instituted in 2004.
While some individuals have also chipped in, the growing institutional support underscores the community’s collective commitment to preserving their rich Bissa heritage.
Sinatare, an all-male group of Bissas, has been in existence for over a decade, taken supportive initiatives to assist Bissas within the region and beyond.
In 2022, it accepted registration as a BDA Zone following the establishment of the Greater Accra Regional branch after learning of the goals and aspirations of the BDA.
It has therefore stepped in with its widow’s mite to ensure its name is etched in the history of the 20th milestone celebration of the biggest homecoming festival.
Regarded as the biggest annual cultural event in the Upper East Region, Zekula attracts thousands of Bissas from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, and Ivory Coast for a day of unity and reconnection with kinfolk. It is a cherished homecoming that sees the Bissa diaspora and multinational guests flock to Kulungungu to revel in the beautiful atmosphere and experience the vibrant traditions.
As more hands join the effort, organisers are optimistic Zekula@20 will be a resounding success that highlights the best of Bissa culture while driving development initiatives for the community.
