From one deputy position to another; BDA’s Sakina Salifu Dabre takes active political post

The Deputy Women’s Commissioner of the Bissa Development Association (BDA) Sakina Salifu Dabre has been appointed the new Bono Regional Deputy Women’s Organiser for the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Bissanewsonline has gathered.

Her appointment comes after an overwhelming endorsement by the newly-elected Women’s Organiser Doris Asomah and warmly supported by the elected executives and the party elders of the region, after series of consultations among themselves.

Sakina Dabre, who is a Principal Health Tutor at Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Berekum, will be deputizing Madam Ansomah to lead the women’s wing of the NPP in the Bono region as the party prepares to retain power in the 2024 elections.

She is one of seven new officers appointed to work in their capacity as deputies to the elected regional executives to steer the affairs of the party in the region.

She brings to the position decades of experience at the branch, constituency and regional levels, including well-honed skills in building consensus among women, which will allow her to strengthen the Women wing of the party in the mission to break the 8.

Regional Women’s Organisers of the NPP have the soul power to appoint their own deputies and the Bissa lady became the obvious choice for Doris Asomah, who won the May 29 contest.

And that is in line with the party’s constitutional provision in Article 9 that each region shall have a regional executive committee comprising 17 executives, 10 of whom are to be elected at a regional delegates’ conference, and the remaining 7, to be appointed.

Sakina Dabre has been a lecturer at the Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Berekum and has trained thousands of girls in that sector.

She is a thought leader on Nursing and midwifery, who has a solid understanding of how to leverage the  transformation of women responsibly and inclusively for progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

She joined the BDA in 2010 and served in various capacities as an executive of the Upper West branch of the association and is one of three leaders of the Bissa Health Workers Union.

She was appointed the Deputy to Madam Dora Kularabi to manage the women’s wing of the BDA as the Gutare-Zanni administration took over the mantle on 6th March 2021.

The affable young lady has been part of the 13-Member National Executive Committee (NEC) who have steered the affairs of the Association.

And after 17 months of serving the developmental Wing of her people, the Dabre lady exits to pick a political mantle to serve party and country.

Her political affiliation was unknown until her new appointment, which makes her ineligible to hold a position at the BDA.

However, her contribution and love for the association have been unflinching, playing an active role in the NEC since her swearing in on 13th March 2021.

The National  Executive Committee, has therefore opened nominations for interested and qualified Bissas to apply for the vacant Deputy WOCOM position.
