Greater Accra Council of Bissa Elders and the Nombre family have agreed  to erect a monument by building a School in memory of the former National Organiser of the Bissa Development Association (BDA), Alhaji Osman Issaka Nombre, who died last week.

A crowdfunding campaign was launched on Saturday to construct the Islamic School, which will be named after him, in honour of the man whose life inspired thousands of youth in joining the Bissa Unity train.

It is a move  which will “reflect his life and legacy” as well as earning  blessings for the dead, the elders says.

The former Gateway Chief at the Ali Dabre Palace, who is famous for his exceptional mobilisation skills, is to be immortalised with the school, while family seeks an unending blessings for him.

Sweet turned sour for the Bissa Fraternity as the man, who was popularly known as Alhaji Weapon,  died hours after receiving overwhelming praises on his 63rd Birthday.

At his 7th day Intercessory prayer (Duaa) held at Alajo, the planned monument was announced with an appeal to the public to donate into a fund.

The Bissa Development Association, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Shaibu Musah Gutare Zanni, donated Ghc 500 into the fund being managed by the family, led by his younger brother Hassan Nombre, who is the Greater Accra Bissa Chief Imam.

The fundraising campaign is being championed by the Greater Accra and Central Regional Council of Bissa Chiefs and being spearheaded by the Bissa Chief of Darkuman kir Abdul Razak Umar Bambara.

More than a 1000 people attended the 7th Dua of Alhaji Osman Issaka Nombre, with many travelling from far in realization of their connections to the man, who dedicated his life in seeking unity for his people.

Building a learning center, according to Islam,  is a wonderful act of “Sadaqah Jariyah”, an act of charity with  an unending rewards.

It is one of three acts whose rewards flow as long as people are benefiting from them. By building a school for people to be trained and be nurtured in the ways of Allah, it is believed the dead in whose name the institution has been constructed, is providing them with a sturdy house of worship that will foster their moral and spiritual development for years to come.

Kir Abdul Razak Umar Bambara says the Fraternity wants a permanent memorial for the man to reflect on his life and legacy.

“Alhaji Weapon was very passionate about bringing people together, both in family and and religious ways as well as encouraging the youth to learn about their history, and was such a devoted Muslim,” Kir Bambara told Bissanewsonline.

“Seeing people together is  something he loved to do as he dedicated his entire life for his People and we as part of ‘Sadaqati Jaria’, building a school in his name reflects his life and legacy.

Hence the council of Bissa elders and the family have resolved on doing this in the name of our late father, to seek Allah’s blessings for him.”

Alhaji Osman Issaka Nombre, a devoted Muslim,  was one of 5 men elected by popular acclamation to lead the BDA, serving as the National Organiser.

He was the busiest among the association’s 13-member National Executive Committee, travelling to major part of the country in mobilsing people for Bissa development.

His works transcended tribal and religious lines, making him one of a darling in the Bissa Fraternity and accross Communities.

He served under both the Greater Accra and Central Regional councils and is credited with the reorganisation of over 100 Bissa Communities towards the goals of the BDA, which he served for 8 months.

He died on the evening of  27th November, the very day he was marking his 63rd bithday.

He was buried at Achimota cemetery a day after, with his burial attracting over a 1000 mouners.
