Professor Mohammed Moro Buri has been named in the governing board of the Council for Scientist and Industrial Research (CSIR) College of Science of Science and Technology (CCST).
He is the representative of Convocation at the 13-member board established with a task of leading a strategic direction to the college for the next three years.
The board chaired by Prof Jophus Anamoah-Mensah has also been charged to strengthen collaborations with other government agencies that were also doing well in the area of science and technology research in the country.
As the Chief Research Scientist and currently the Director of the CSIR-Soil Research institute in Ghana, Prof Buri comes in with vast experience in the area of science, leading a project in sustainable soil nutrient and water management under climate change.
The Bissa scientist has expertise in the Soil fertility, plant nutrition, resource management (land & water), agronomy and environmental management.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the CSIR Professor Robert Kingsford Adaboh expressed confidence in the capabilities of Prof Bu the board members.
“I know you are and also willing to help execute this pressing agenda as science and technology is currently the pivot for any developing economy,” he said.
He added that the council is the backbone of the country’s scientific research mandated to carry out scientific and technological research for national development.
Chairman of the board Prof Anamoah-Mensah thanked the council and expressed confidence in the team, promising to bring vibrancy in the science and technology subject.
“I believe that looking at the calibre of people on the board, we will give the college the needed assistance in making science and technology a vibrant subject that will be marketing the research works of the Council,” he said.
Established by the council in 2012 and accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission in September 2015, the CCST has the vision of becoming the leading provider of quality science and technology education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.
The new board has a three-year mandate to ensure the growth of the CCST and according to Prof. Anamoah-Mensah, the college would be running a PhD programme next year.

Profile of Mohammed Moro Buri
Prof. M. M. Buri is a Chief Research Scientist of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He was the Director of the CSIR-Soil Research Institute (SRI) from August 2018 to March 2021. He has a Ph.D. (1999) in Bio-environmental Science from the University of Tottori, Japan. He obtained an MSc degree (1996) in Natural Resource Management from the Shimane University, also from Japan, and a BSc degree (1986) in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana.
Prof, Buri is currently the Head of Department of the Soil Resources Management, CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST), a position he has held since 2019. He also lectures and supervises postgraduate students of the college. As Chief Research Scientist, he has conducted extensive research, with a variety of interdisciplinary teams on soil resource management, water management, environmental management and soil management/plant nutrition and climate smart agriculture on a variety of crops notably rice, maize, cassava, yam, sweet potato, cowpea, soybean and tomato across the different agro-ecological zones in Ghana and beyond. Specific areas include integrated nutrient (organic, inorganic, systems, etc.) management, environmental management and conservation agriculture. Worked with several International Organizations such as Africa Rice Centre based in Ivory Coast, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) based in Nigeria, International Water Management Institute (IWMI) based in Ghana; Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) and Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) both based in Japan. I have also worked and/or collaborated with Universities in Japan (Kinki University, Shimane University, Tsukuba University) and Internal/Local Universities such as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Development Studies (UDS) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC). Other organizations include the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana and sister Institutes of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ghana.
