The Nagboo Bissa Students’ Association (NABSA) on Friday held a special quiz and poetry competition as part of its 5th Annual General Meeting, setting the entire town into a memorable experience.
It was a mixture of culture and academics in a colorful ceremony at the Nagboo market square, which was held under the theme “The impact of education on society, the significance of female child education, and Career Guidance”.
About 300 people participated in the event, with some Bissa dignitaries gracing the occasion in Zekula fashion.
The special poetry recitations and a quiz competition were specifically designed for junior high school pupils.
12 primary school pupils participated in the poetry recital, while the Quiz was a two-horse race between Nagboo L/A JHS and Greenlight Academy.
Students competed in the areas of Science, Mathematics, Current affairs, and the Bissa language, in which Greenlight Academy emerged victorious.
Awards were presented to students who participated in both the poetry recitals and the quiz competition in a special session chaired by Mr. Seidu Ahmed Zeeba.
According to NABSA, the aim of these activities was to encourage creativity, intellectual engagement, and friendly competition among the young participants.
“By organizing such events, the association not only promotes academic excellence but also provides a platform for the youth to showcase their talents and skills,” chairman Zeeba said.
“It is our aim as a Bissa association to ensure we inculcate into our younger brothers and sisters the practice of learning hard to achieve their academic goals.”
An amount of GHC555 was raised at the session during an appeal for funds.
Five invited guests from Nalerigu and Sakogu made it to the program, which took a different approach since the Association started holding the annual meetings.
They are Mr. Seidu Ahmed Zeeba, Statistical Officer at the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly; Mr. Konlan Abdulai, Procurement and Supply Chain Management Officer at The Baptist Medical Center (BMC), Nalerigu; and Mr. Widana Nazini, Science and Maths Coordinator, North East Regional Education Office. Mr. Sulemana, A Matron at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NAHATS), and Mr. Zakari Amadu Jinkor, Head Teacher of Sakogu R/C JHS.
The NABSA forms part of the National Union of Bissa Students (NUBS), which is the umbrella organization for all Bissa students from the basic level to Institutions of higher learning.
The NABSA executives present were: Iddrisu Umar Dakupah (President), Adam Abdul Majeed Dabre (Vice President), Mustapha Ibrahim Jinkor (Secretary), Amadu Ibrahim Yabre (Deputy Secretary), Ahmed Abdul Rahman Bansi (Treasurer), Abdul Somed Abdul Hakeem Dabre (Organizer), and Abdulai Abdul-Rauf Parbur (Acting Deputy Organizer).
Other opinion leaders of the community who participated in the meeting are Mr. Imoro Abdulai (Assembly Man of Nagboo), Chief Abdulai Salifu (Garchi Naa of Nagboo), Mr. Iddrisu Ali Wudana, Mallam Abdul Latif (Aqeedah), Mallam Iddris Yussif (Iddris Piina), and Elder Abass Mohammed Dabry (Abass Ceazer).
