A first-year student of the Cape Coast Nursing and Midwifery Training College (CCNMTC), Nafisa Anas Bance, is the latest to benefit from Kir Sualla Saeed Sare’s scholarship, becoming the third tertiary student to be enrolled in the scheme.
Nafisa, a Weija-based Bissa lady, has had her fees for the semester fully paid and will continue to enjoy the educational support scheme from the Chief till the end of her training, the palace has said.
At a short ceremony held at the Palace on Monday, May 23, Kir Suallah Saeed Sare handed over a fully signed check to Nafisa and her parents, urging the young lady to work hard to make the fraternity proud.
“As a nursing student, you already know what awaits you in society as far as the country’s health sector is concerned,” he said.
“Every household would wish to have at least one nurse in the family, and the expectation is huge now, and the onus now lies on you to put in all the efforts to make us proud.
“We will do our best to support you till you complete your training, as it is our aim to keep supporting as many Bissa students as we can since that is our task as leaders.”
The scholarship program is to assist Bissa students from low- and middle-income families in accessing education.
It forms part of a broader Sare Education and Business Empowerment (SEBE) project, which was launched in April this year to grant educational support and economic empowerment to Bissas living in Weija, Bortinor, New Boartianor, and beyond.
And the support for Nafisa comes just a month after two other tertiary students received similar benefits amid serious economic hardship in the country.
She joins the list of beneficiaries, such as Sangou Latifa Mustapha and Ahmed Bancy, who are enjoying full scholarships under the special initiative by the Bissa Chief.
Under the scheme, fully funded and managed by the palace, at least two Bissa tertiary students across the country will be enrolled every year for a ten-year period, while those in business will get financial cushioning to grow their businesses.
The Sare Education and Business Empowerment Project aims to mitigate some education and career challenges Bissas are faced with.
Over 30 Bissas, comprising students, farmers, and business owners, have so far benefited from the project, with many more people in line to receive their support in the coming days.
