The Bissa Chief of New Jersey, US, Chir Ibrahim Adam has charged Bissas to walk the talk as far as achieving the aims of Zekula festival is concerned.
He said it was important that Bissa leadership channel some support, especially towards the youth, to mitigate the challenges they face and empower them with that “sense of belonging”.
He was speaking in connection with the organisation of Zekula festival, of which he attended the mini one held at Amoamang last week.
In an interview with Bissanewsonline, Chir Adam, who doubles as the Bissa Chief of Awrokrom in the Ashanti region, said Zekula will remain just a chant until people make the move to express love to one another to achieve the unity Bissas are yearning for.
“Such great events offers us great steps to achieve the aims and we will all have to embrace it with lots of effort to ensure they go beyond the merry-making ,” he said.
“Like I always tell my Bissa Community, We are always preaching Zekula Zekula Zekula but we have issues.
“If you say Zekula, you have to back it up with action.
“We’v been doing zekula programs for a long time but at the same time we are our own enemies.
“We need to break that barrier and start liking each other and working with each other and respecting each other and just tolerate each other.”
He said it is about time Bissas went beyond sloganeering and tackled the very core challenges that has drawn them back over the years.
He lamanted on the deliberate refusal of some Bissas to engage themselves with their Bissa brother and sisters.
“A Bissa doesn’t wanna deal with his own Bissa brother or Sister, which is very sad.
“Sometimes they even don’t wanna be identified as Bissa, I just can’t understand.
“You cannot change yourself into someone you are not.”
Chir Adam had made a similar call earlier at Ammoamang when he attended the launching of the Bissa Biyaan Group, an event which he represented the Ashanti Regional Chief Osman Salu Tanko Zinsuru Yemboni.
He is set to participate in another launch of the Bissa Nyinta Group on Sunday at Ankase.
He said it is difficult to bring people together but it is doable.
“It seems we v been laid back for a long time and like I said organisation of programs like this is good for our unity,” he said.
“It helps in drawing us closer to one another for unity.I am proud to be a Bissa and will always embrace events like this and I will urge people to be proud of their tribe Bissa.
“Nobody created Bissa, it’s Allah that created Bissa and Allah that created us and said I want you to be Bissa and you now wanna choose to a different tribe?
“You’v got to be proud of who you are, God made you so make God proud that he made you Bissa.”
He gave the assurance that the Bissa Community in USA would lend all the support within it purview to any project that helps to empower young people and urged them to work together to propagate the message and secure a better future for the Bissa youth.
