Young Bissa lady Mustapha Latifa Sangou picked up two awards at the 2022 Association of Computing Students (ACS) Awards and Dinner after winning in the “Best Student Influencer” and “Best Sportswoman” categories.
Latifa, a first-year student of the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC), won the double by a majority of votes, having received massive support from the Bissa fraternity.
It was her first time participating in the all-student contest, and she won both categories with style, becoming the first ever female to be named the Best Student Influencer.
She walked home with two citations (Best Student Influencer and Best Sportswoman), a customized plaque, four branded glass cups, four branded napkins, and two pens.
The awards conferred on her acknowledged her valuable contribution to the Association of Computing Students.
At the Awards and Dinner Night held on Saturday, November 19, at Cantonment, the ACS commended the academic board of the institute as well as the students for their outstanding contributions towards the development of information technology in the country and their vibrancy in adding beauty to academic works.
In an interview with Bissanews.com, Latifa, who is a member of the Bissa Development Association (BDA), thanked Bissas for the massive votes that ensured she picked the prestigious accolades.
She said the award will motivate her to work harder as she pursues her first degree in Information Technology (IT).
“I am proud yet humbled to have been honored with such prestigious accolades,” she said.
“Awards like these are a clear recognition of our little efforts at school.”
“I am very happy for this, and it will spur me on to work harder in every field I find myself in.”
She also commended Kir Suallah Saeed Sari of Bortianor/Weija for being her backbone and inspirer and pushing her to climb the academic ladder.
“A very big thanks goes to General Bissa Porpulace for the massive votes, especially Kir Suallah Saeed Sari for his support and motivation,” she said.
“This is just the beginning, as I have three more years to pursue my academy goals in this school.”
To qualify for the awards, a student must belong to the faculty of computing and information systems at GTUC.
The Association of Computing Students (ACS), which is the umbrella body for students studying computer science, computer engineering, information systems, cyber security, and all IT-related courses at the school, has over the years organized the awards to acknowledge members for their exceptional contribution to the technological development of the country.
Latifa is pursuing a four-year degree in IT at the GTUC, having completed her high school education at Fumbisi Senior High in the Upper East Region.
Besides her exceptional interpersonal relationships with colleagues, class performance and good conduct, Latifa is a social media savvy and has over 15000 followers on TikTok, a feat that got her nominated for the Most Influencer Awards.
As an athlete and footballer, her involvement and knowledge in sports earned her a nomination for the Best Sports Woman award.
She is multitalented, but her sporting prowess dates back to her junior high school days in Kulungungu, where she got so many awards (inter-house, inter-school, inter-district, and regional).
She was nearly poached to play for Ghana Female Premier League side Hasaacas Ladies Football Club in the Western Region, but opted to continue with her education in Accra, with movie acting being another aim of hers.
