The Bissa chief of New Weija and New Bortianor, Kir Suallah Saeed Sare, has offered GH35,000 in financial assistance to 20 Bissa businesswomen in their quest to improve their market.
The 20 beneficiaries, comprising food vendors, fruit and vegetable sellers, grocery store operators, textile and garment shops, and those operating mobile money businesses, received the financial insensitivity through the Chief’s special initiative to cushion Bissa women in their businesses amid the economic hardship in the country.
The gender-aware approach to trade expansion is aimed at boosting the economic fortunes of Bissa women-owned businesses in the country.
At a ceremony on Monday to hand over the aid, the chief said women’s development is dear to his heart and that he is committed to supporting them as they grow their businesses.
“The women are our mothers, which is why I have decided this time around to support them,” he emphasized.
“We know that empowering women in their businesses is the key to unlocking their full potential.” And that results in lifting the burden on the family head (husbands).
“I have trust in the Bissa women, and I believe support like this will help them reach their full potential and expand their market, which we will all be proud of in the near future.”
He asserted that Bissa women will have the potential to flourish if the various Bissa communities will inject a little something to help them build upon their businesses.
He appealed to each of the women to sincerely reinvest the money to grow their businesses, which is exactly what the incentive was meant for.
Since his assumption of the seat of leadership in New Weija and New Bortianor, he has been supporting the women with startup kits, with the latest costing over GhS 100,000.
The financial support for the women comes as one of the broader support programs initiated by Kir Sare to support the Bissa fraternity through education and employment.
He earlier launched a scholarship program where at least two Bissa tertiary students will be fully sponsored throughout their course period.
The beneficiaries also thanked the Chief for the support, which they say was “a timely intervention needed in a difficult period in the country.”
