Kir Ali Dabre IV, the newly installed Bissa Chief of Greater Accra, held his first official meeting with the influential Regional Council of Bissa Chiefs on Tuesday, just days after his investiture ceremony on April 27th.
The meeting, held at the Bissa Palace in Nima, was intended to formally introduce palace officials and leaders occupying various traditional positions to the new chief.
The event saw a packed gathering of paramount chiefs, queens, elders, and dignitaries come to pay their respects and introduce themselves to the new leader.
Also joining from the Central Region was Kir Mustapha Dawudu Lengani, who made the journey from his Gomoa Fetteh jurisdiction to be part of the colourful event.
Addressing the council, Kir Ali Dabre IV expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the support during the transition following the passing of his predecessor, Kir Mohamed Ali Dabre III.
“I am humbled by the overwhelming support from the Bissa fraternity and the general public who celebrated my installation last Saturday,” he said.
“I promise to stay connected with this esteemed council and work tirelessly towards the cultural preservation, unity, and togetherness of our people. My vision is to foster an environment where our traditions thrive while pursuing sustainable development for the betterment of all Bissas.”
The Regional Council serves as the governing body overseeing matters related to the Bissa community across Greater Accra and plays a vital advisory role for the paramount chief on key decisions.
By familiarising himself with this council, Kir Ali Dabre IV looks to lay the groundwork for collaboration on initiatives impacting the Bissa people in the region.
Kir Ali Dabre IV succeeded his late brother, Mohamed Ali Dabre III, who ruled for 13 years until his passing in April 2024.
As the fourth member of the revered Dabre Clan to occupy this paramount seat, he follows the legacy of his father, Ali Dabre I, who first held the position, followed by Osman Ali Dabre II and Mohamed Ali Dabre III.
His ascension symbolises the Bissa community’s cherished values of unity, continuity, and tradition dating back generations.
While based in the US, the new chief has vowed to maintain regular communication with palace officials and regional chiefs through modern technology.
“I will ensure no decision impacting the Bissa community is made without consultation and consensus from this esteemed council,” he added.
“Together, we can uphold our identity while progressing into a prosperous future.”
His dedication to serving has been welcomed by elders, who see him as a bridge connecting the diaspora to the homeland.
The meeting marked an important first step for the newly installed paramount chief to lay out his vision while seeking guidance from traditional leaders.
