The president of the Greater Accra Council of Bissa Chiefs, Kir Salisu Ali Dabre IV, has arrived in Accra from the United States to participate in Saturday’s Sukuma festival, marking his formal introduction to the general public.

This appearance will be his first since his installation in April, adding an extra layer of excitement to the occasion.

Organised by the Regional Bissa Development Association under the auspices of the Council he leads, the event promises a vibrant display of cultural traditions, fostering unity among the Bissa community living away from their ancestral homes.

The celebration will showcase the rich history and heritage of the Bissa people through music, dance, cuisine, and various cultural displays in a day filled with merriment.

Thousands are expected to gather at the Alajo Astroturf for this colourful mini-festival, which was established in 2022.

Unlike the Zekula Festival, which is held exclusively at Kulungungu, the Sukuma, on the other hand, is organised by regional/local branches of the BDA to meet area needs.

It is the first time the Greater Accra is going to mark it after the first two were held in the Ashanti region.

The Sukuma festival represents a crucial moment for the Bissa diaspora, offering an opportunity to celebrate their roots and strengthen community bonds.

Kir Salisu Ali Dabre IV’s involvement is particularly significant, as he recently assumed leadership following the passing of his predecessor, the late Dabre Mohammed Ali Dabre III. His participation has heightened anticipation for the festivities.

With its array of traditional performances and the presence of their newly installed leader, Saturday’s gathering is poised to be a memorable celebration of Bissa identity and unity.
