The Famers Day celebration is annually held at the district, regional, and national levels in the country in recognition of the contribution that farmers make towards national development.
About 40 farmers and fishermen were slated for metropolitan awards at the 38th edition of the celebration, but it was the Bissa man who picked the overall best at the 38th edition of the Farmers Day celebration.
For his prize, he took home a tricycle, a wheelbarrow, bags of fertilizer, wellington boots, a pumping machine, a citation, and other farming implements.
He is into animal farming and also owns several acres of onion, cabbage, pepper, watermelon, okro, cassava, orange, tomato, and bean farms.
Expressing his delight over the honor done him, he used the occasion to thank the organizers for recognizing his hard work and called on the government to take pragmatic measures to help reduce post-harvest losses, which had been one of the main challenges facing many farmers in the country.
He also urged the youth to be positive-minded and venture into agriculture production since it was a lucrative business one could invest in.
His award comes as a feather in the cap of the Bissas, who are well noted for result-oriented farming.
