The Bissa Chief of Madina Kir, Alhaji Adam Yurusah, has been nominated to receive the 2024 May Day National Award, according to a statement from the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU).
It comes upon the resumption of his mandatory retirement from public service, which began in March this year, ending decades of dedicated service to Mother Ghana as a worker of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
He is one of many Ghanaians billed to be honoured for their services on the day set aside to celebrate workers.
The award, to be presented by President Akufo-Addo, is in recognition of his dedication and contributions to the public service sector and community development.
In the statement, the PUWU National Secretariat informed Yurusah of his nomination, congratulated him, and urged him to be at “Independence Square” to receive the award.
“The National Secretariat of PUWU wishes to inform you that you have been nominated to receive the 2024 May Day National Award,” the statement read.
“The presentation to you and other awardees is scheduled for May 1, 2024, at Independence Square by His Excellency the President.
“You are requested to be at Independence Square to receive the award. Receive our congratulations in advance. My warmest regards.”
Kir Yurusah worked for the ECG for most of his active years, where he is credited with developing many fault-finding solutions that improved power supply reliability.
As the traditional ruler of the Bissas in the Madina community of Greater Accra, he has played an active role in all functions that seek to bring development to the Bissa people. His unbiased activism on anything concerning the Bissa community has made him a conspicuous presence in many programmes organised both in the Greater Accra Region and beyond.
May Day National Awards annually honour distinguished Ghanaians across various fields for their contributions to nation-building, development, and community service.
Kir Yurusah’s nomination is a recognition of his sustained efforts and leadership in driving positive change, both through his professional work at ECG.
He is a big figure in the Bissa Development Association (BDA), and played a huge role in the formation of the Madina Zone of the association.
On two occasions, he has been listed among the Bissa excellence achievers by the Brand Bissa Concept (BBC) for his role as a traditional leader advocating for the development of the Bissa community.
