The November 4 event has the National Chief Imam as the Guest of Honour

The Chief Imam of the Greater Accra region and the head of the Zaawiyatul Adwaaul Faid Hassan Uthman Nombre has announced Friday, November 4th, 2022 to mark this year’s “Maulid Nabi”, gathering momentum to express joy and gratitude for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

In exactly eleven days’ time, the revered Islamic scholar in the Bissa fraternity will lead a large gathering of Muslims at the Alajo Polo junction in Accra to celebrate and learn more about the life of the prophet and his teachings.

Mawlid al-Nabi, the Arabic translation of “birthday of the prophet”, is widely celebrated across the world.

It is the second time in a year that Imam Nombre is commemorating the event in the month of November, having marked the 2021 edition on the 26th of the eleventh month.

Themed “Critical issues facing humanity; Islamic perspective,” the November 4 celebration will be marked with religious lectures and recitals of verses from the Qur’an in a charged atmosphere of chanting hymns to the beat of drums and cymbals.

Just like in the 2021 edition, the National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Uthman Nuhu Sharubutu, will be the Guest of Honour for the one-night event.

On a rotational basis, Imam Hassan Nombre, who is the head of the Zaawiyatul Adwaaul Faid, leads the weekly Friday congregational prayers at the Kotobabi Central Mosque and Ebony Central Mosque in the Greater Accra

He has been the Bissa Chief Imam of Greater Accra for the past 6 years and serves as a member of the council of elders of Bissas in the region.

The fact that his Maulid attracts high-profile individuals is seen as highly symbolic of his influence and status among Islamic intellectuals, transcending the boundaries of his Bissa ethnicity and his place of residence in Alajo.

He is respected by intellectuals from across the Islamic spectrum, as he has imparted knowledge to thousands and remains a role model to many across all the religious sects.

His grand event is expected to bring together Muslim leaders and clerics from across the country and abroad, top government officials, politicians from various political divides, and leaders of other religions in the country.

Maulid serves as a reminder to Muslims to continuously emulate the exemplary lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad.

It is a yearly fixture that is celebrated on the twelfth day of the month Rabi’ al-Awwal by some Muslim sects.

While the day was not marked by the prophet himself, Muslims see the Prophet as an ethical and spiritual role model, and commemorating his life is seen as another way of keeping his memory alive in the collective Muslim consciousness.

Given the central importance of the prophet in Islam and the fact that there is no religiously mandated holiday to celebrate his life, the Mawlid has taken on significance among Muslims as a way to remember him.

It therefore makes it possible for individual Muslims to mark the occasion according to their religious beliefs and timetable.
