Coah Ibrahim Tanko (Yemboni) brought his tactical prowess to bear as he led the Black Meteors to a 2-1 victory over Mozambique in the qualifiers for the CAF U-23 Championship tournament.
The Black Meteors put up an impressive performance in the clash against their counterparts, thanks to an impressive tactical display by the former Borussia Dortmund star.
The two national teams were drawn in the second round of the qualifiers for the CAF U-23 Championship tournament, and it was the Mozambicans who hosted the first leg of the tie at the Estadio Nacional de Zimpeto in Maputo.
Calm and well composed at the technical bench, Tanko inspired his charges to tame the Mozambiqans at their own background.
Despite a strong display from both teams in the first half, neither side could score and had to settle for a goalless draw.
In the second half, the Black Meteors of Ghana switched to second gear and had the advantage over the home team.
Having been awarded a penalty kick in the 64th minute, Hearts of Oak poster boy Daniel Afriyie Barnieh stepped up to take it and scored in fine fashion to give the visitors the lead.
Later, in the 76th minute, the talented forward was in the same position again and did not miss.
While Mozambique scored late in the game, it only served as a consolation as Ghana held on to win 2-1 at the end of the 90 minutes.
It was Tanko’s first competitive task in his second return as the Black Mateors coach.
And the away victory puts his team in pole position to qualifying as they host the Mozambiqans on Saturday in the second leg of the fixture.
