The Greater Accra Council of Bissa Elders on Saturday 5th September, extended its “Zekula” campaign to Nkawkaw, deliberating on the formation of an Eastern Regional Council of Bissa Chiefs.
At a final Duaa (funeral rite) held in the town for the late Hajia Habiba, who is the mother of Imam Ismail Sambare, the Greater Accra Council took the opportunity to hold talks with the Eastern Regional leadership to look at the various possible ways to build a stronger fraternity.
About 15 members from the nation’s capital made the trip to the Nkawkaw township for that exceptional meeting expected to promote unity among the Bissa leadership in the region.
It also seeks to fraternize with the various Bissa communities in a bid to strengthen the inter-regional ties among Bissas.
The Greater Accra Bissa Imam, Hassan Nombre led the prayers for the late mother of Imam Sambare, who happens to be the Imam for the Bissa Fitness Club.
Addressing the gathering, the Bissa chief of Darkuman Abdul Razak Bambara urged Bissas in Nkawkaw to come together for a common purpose.
“As Bissas the unity among us goes beyond Government’s regional demarcation, our unity and being each others keeper should go beyond borders” he said.
“It’s just by Government’s policy direction that has some of us in Greater Accra while some of you find yourselves in order regions.
“But we have come here first as brothers and sisters of the Bissa family before the regional label comes in.
“I will appeal to each and everyone that anytime there is a program at nkawkaw you can call on us without any hesitation and we will honour it.”
The proposal presented by the Greater Accra Council received a unanimous acceptance from the Bissas present.
Representing the Bissa Chief of Nkawkaw was his son Ibrahim Sari, who hailed the idea brought forward by their Greater Accra counterpart.
He pledged to work hand-in-hand with the other chiefs to expedite action for the establishment of the council for the region, which he says will help to consolidate the unity and togetherness among the Bissa communities.
Saturday’s event will go down as one of the most decisive moves made by the team as it created the platform for people from far and near to express their views on matters hindering the progress of Bissas across the country.
According to the Chief Protocol Officer of the Bissa fraternity, Isaaka Nombre (Alhaji Weapon) the agenda to establish regional Council of Bissa Chief will be carried to the other regions in the coming days.
Among the members that attended the funeral were Imams, Chiefs and other prominent Bissas, including the Queen mother, Hajia Alima.
