Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sakyedomasi Muhammad Bawah Brimah has been re-elected for the third term as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency following an overwhelming victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s parliamentary primary held on Saturday.
The Bissa man polled 684 votes to maintain his position as the party’s choice for the 2024 election, while his close contender had 265 votes.
The election was fraught with controversy after one of the contenders, Juliana Kinang Wassan, created a melee as she went on a money-showering spree at the election venue.
In a dramatic turn of events, the young lady caused a stir when she arrived at the voting center and recklessly threw cash at delegates. His impulsive act drew crowds of delegates and observers to her vehicle, creating a chaotic scene at the voting center.
But in all those controversies, Hon. Bawah Braimah remained resolute, as he was sure of victory.
“I am not the least perturbed by what she has done,” he said.
“The status quo will prevail. I am winning this seat and what she has done doesn’t change anything.”
And it came to pass that he won the contest with over 400 votes to grab the party’s ticket for the 2024 contest.
Juliana Kinang Wassan, however, came fourth in the race with 216 votes, while her actions have received widespread condemnation, and she faces a police investigation and party suspension.
Honourable Bawah Braimah, after Saturday’s victory, has the guarantee of seeking a third term in parliament after wrestling the seat from the NPP’s Bamba in the 2016 election.
The Hon. made it to Parliament for the first time in 2017 after serving as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejura-Sekyedumase between 2013 and January 2017.
He is just one of two Bissas in the House of Representatives out of six who contested the 2016 parliamentary election.
The Ejura-Sakyedumasi constituency remains one of only three seats occupied by the National Democratic Congress out of forty-seven seats in the Ashanti Region.
Below are the full results.
Hon. Muhammad Bawah Brimah: 684
Hon. Kombat Suuk Paul: 265
