Greater Accra Bissa FC lifted the pressure on themselves as they scored in first half to secure victory over Akans in the ongoing Zongo Inter-tribal Gala at the Kanda Cluster of Schools Park.

A 1-0  win, that was workmanlike rather than spectacular,  was all that the Bissas to earn a jubilation in “Zekula”.

Hakeem Dabre grabbed the solitary goal to spur Bissas into the Quarter Final

The team was under mounting scrutiny after a difficult start to the campaign with a defeat to the Mossis that left them with more questions to answer.

But they lived up to expectations as Hakeem Dabre headed them on  in the 30th minute to set the team for their second quarter final feat of the tournament.

With a ferocious run into space, Dabre out jumped all to a cross with a  powerful header that left the Akan goalkeeper with no answer.

The match was characterised with more midfield actions

The Bissas turned defence into attack with a superb interception from midfield, followed with a pass to the right winger, who dribbled past his marker and sent a beautiful cross to the goalmouth of the opponents, and a header from the top marksman Hakeem Dabre saw the ball dangling into the net for the opener and only goal of the match.

Relief for Coach Bansi and his men

Bissas Coach Sani Mohammed Bansi used social media to call for patience and support after his side’s poor start to the to the tournament but he will know, as well as anyone, that the clock ticks on any manager who struggles to get points on the board, especially in charge of a team with large support base and high aspirations.

He wrote: “This year’s competition has been a very tight one with the defending champion Zabarma struggling to survive, Kotokoli, who were first runner-up last year are already eliminated.
We were Semi Finalists but we are through the the round of 16 sixteen which is a knockout stage.

“We are looking at you for support, please come in your numbers to cheer your dear Bissa team to victory.

Hakeem Dabre’s goal happens to be the first and only goal recorded by Bissas so far in the Second edition of the competition.

The team had to throw in everything to protect their lead whiles playing under constant threat.

The fighting spirit of the Akans gave the Bissas much to worry until they celebrated the blow of the final whistle with a mixture of elation and relief.

The Bissas  lost their first game 4-3 to the Mossis but qualified to the round 16 stage as one of six best losers.

They were pressures stoking from all angles as expectations grew among members across the country.

And that immediate result was at least achieved to get the team off the mark this time while scoring their first goal of the campaign, even if it was hardly a convincing victory margin and achieved against a wounded Akan side who have now said goodbye to the tournament.
