A long-standing member of the Biss Development Association (BDA) Hajia Fati Ali-Yallah has been called to the Bar, grabbing the certification to commence her legal profession in the country.
It comes exactly a week after her only daughter, Farida Ganform Adam Tarnagda was inducted into the medical profession.
The call to Bar is the official moment where an individual is sworn into a law society or court and obtains licencing to practise law in that jurisdiction.
At the 59th anniversary ceremony organised by the General Legal Council (GLC) in Accra on Friday, June 23, the Bissa lady became one of 95 lawyers to achieve that feat.
She participated in the swearing-in ceremony held at the Court Auditorium at the High Court Complex, after which a large number of family and friends, including some executives of the BDA, joined to celebrate her success.
Speaking to bissanewsonline, Madam Fati expressed her delight at her success path and urged more Bissa ladies to pick up the challenge.
“It wasn’t an easy journey. And that’s why I’m absolutely delighted to be in this position,” she said.
“It was a very long process. It’s a difficult journey, but we can all work hard to hit the top.
“Being a mother is not a barrier, being a wife is not a barrier, and neither age nor being a worker is a barrier. So nothing should stop any lady from climbing the academic or professional ladder.”
It was a day that saw members of the Yaala family travel from far and near to witness the formal investiture of their sister into the legal profession.
Per the practise, the GLC annually convenes a formal meeting to enrol and call to the Ghana Bar, candidates who have successfully passed their professional law examination organised by the Ghana School of Law after certifying their results.
Among the dignitaries who graced Friday’s occasion were the Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sakyedomasi Honourable Mohammed Bawa, retired IT expert Mr Salifu Ali -Chibur, BDA officer in charge of human resources, Dr Yakubu Yussif Tobur, the Deputy Secretary Tanko Abdul Malik Guerni and Fati Abdullah Yaala, who had travel from Techiman to join the family in Accra.
For Madam Fati and her family, it has been a week packed with glory and merry.
Seven days before her admission to the Bar, she was celebrating the success of her daughter, Farida Ganform, who was inducted into medical office.
And it was a colourful scene as the doctor daughter joined the mother Lawyer in the celebration.
Madam Fati Yallah, a mother of two and a product of Accra High School, has been part of the BDA since its establishment in 2004.
