Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, former Minister of Youth and Sports, has passed away at the age of 63, reports indicate.

Dr. Ahmed, a longtime politician with Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and the Bal Naa of the Bissa fraternity, died in India, where he had travelled for medical treatment. The exact cause of his death is still unknown.

A dental surgeon by profession, Dr. Ahmed served as a Member of Parliament representing the Ayawaso East constituency from 2001 to 2013. He was elected to parliament on the NDC ticket in 2000, 2004, and 2008.

During his political career, he held ministerial positions including Minister of Youth and Sports and Minister for Local Government under NDC administrations.

Dr. Ahmed was married with three children. He was Muslim.

Tributes have started pouring in for Dr. Ahmed, described as a consummate politician and distinguished son of Ghana. His death is a great loss to the Bissa fraternity, the NDC party and the nation.

Dr. Ahmed was 63 years old. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and his extended family. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced shortly.
