Business mogul Mr Bukari Baba Ibrahim has been elected the new Bono East Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing a landslide victory in the regional election held on friday.
In an overwhelming victory, the Bissa man polled 151 of the total votes cast, ousting the incumbent Thomas Adu Appiah Thoma with 73 votes difference.
After all valid votes counted the Former Chairman of the Bissa Development Association (BDA) grabbed 64% as his main contender Thoma could only manage 33% from 78 votes, with Prince Yaw Donyina coming last with 7 votes, representing 3%.
Chairman IB, as popularly called, has been a grassroot person, who is widely loved for his philanthropic acts across all political divide, and his triumph in Friday’s poll consolidated his loyalty to the party and his authority in the region.
He has a firm touch with the base and his victory is widely seen as a good omen for the elephant party.
He now carries the party on his shoulder at the regional level, with a huge task of mobilizing and uniting all members for the 2024 battle.
A Business Tycoon turned politician, Mr Ibrahim spearheaded the BDA on an interim bases and he is credited with the success of the association at a point.
His era saw a huge patronage of the Zekula festival as he single handedly sponsored thousands of Bissas to embark on the trip to the traditional home of Kulungungu.
