Five newly qualified Bissa medical graduates were, on Saturday 29th October, 2022, inducted into the country’s healthcare workforce, marking a triumphant transition from studentship to full-fledged medical professionals.

The fresh graduates, made up of four males and one female, were fully certified in a ceremony held by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Dr Hamdalah Haruna Sanwini, Dr Abdul-Mumin Haruna Zeeda, Dr. Naabo Mohammed Najeeb, Dr. Wuni Andul Nasir Zeeda and Dr. Rabiu Abubakar Zanzeh were among a total of 461 newly qualified medical and dental practitioners who took the hypocritical oath to serve the country.

It comes after successfully completing their six or seven-year program and passing the Medical and Dental Council’s registration examination.

They were joined by their family and friends at the colorful ceremony that gives them full recognition to practice the profession.

The five have therefore carved out role models for themselves, as their achievements add more pride to the Bissa Fraternity.

They join a tall list of Bissa Medical Doctors who are making great strides in the country’s medical system.

The inductees comprised graduates from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Kumasi; the University of Development Studies, School of Medicine, Tamale; the University of Ghana Medical School in Accra; and other foreign-trained doctors.

Apart from Dr. Hamdalah, who is foreign-trained, the other four—all men—are graduates of the University of Development Studies.

The five have already joined the Bissa Health Professionals Union platform.

Dr Hamdalah Haruna Sanwini

Sanwini

After completing her senior high school education at Wesley Grammar, the woman of Sanwini descent left the shores of Ghana to study in China.

She gained admission to study medicine at the Hubei University of Chinese Medicine and later took a transfer to Yangtze University, where she finally graduated. She then returned to Ghana and sat for her licensure exams in June.

“I chose to study abroad so I could learn about different cultures and beliefs and meet different people around the world,” she said.

“Being a health professional has been a dream of mine, and my career vision is to be a successful surgeon.”

The young lady was the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Rep for her school.

Dr Abdul-Mumin Haruna Zeeda

Zeeda

Born to Alhaji Haruna Ahmed Jamdedu and Hajia Bibata Haruna, Dr. Haruna Abdul-Mumin Zeeda is a product of Mfantsipim School, having completed his junior high school education at Ridge International in Takoradi.

He is a happy man who is anticipating a great medical career.

“I am very happy to be serving in this noble profession, and I look forward to being a great doctor,” he said.

The Tamale-born Pusiga man gained admission to UDS in 2015 to read medicine, and in his seven years there, he took up several leadership roles at both the Medical School Association and the Student Representative Council, which I believe has helped develop my personality as well.

Dr. Naabo Mohammed Najeeb

Naabo

Born in Tamale and a product of TI Ahmadiyya SHS in Kumasi, Dr. Naabo Mohammed Najeeb proceeded to the University for Development Studies in 2016 where he pursued medicine, something he had a “great passion for.”

“I have always had a great passion for medicine, and I hope to put a smile on the faces of all my patients.”

Like his colleagues, Dr. Naabo served the Medical Students Association in many capacities, including as general secretary for the association.

Dr. Rabiu Abubakar Zanzeh

Zanzeh

For Dr. Abubakar Rabiu Zanzeh, giving back to society is one of his motivations for pursuing a MBChB certificate.

Born in Techiman to Mr. Abubakar Zanzeh, Dr. Rabiu gained admission to the UDS medical school in 2015 after completing his senior high education at St. James Seminary in Abesim/Sunyani.

“As a proud doctor, my aim is to give back to society what I have acquired and build the human resource of my family, my immediate environment, and humanity at large.”

Dr. Wuni Andul Nasir Zeeda

wuni

A maternal Bissa, who has heaped praise on his Pusiga-native mom.

Dr. Wuni Abdul Nasir is a product of Prempeh College and gained admission to the UDS Medical School in 2015.

“I was really happy to have made my parents proud, and my journey through medical school had taught me a lot, not just about human biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, etc., but about life in general,” he said.

“With time, I developed so much interest and got an in-depth understanding of how my future profession would enable me to make a great impact by improving other people’s lives and contributing to their health.

“This has always been my motivation in medical school, and I thank the Almighty Allah for granting me the opportunity to finish medical school and be inducted this year.”

“I must say a big thank you to my mom; she was always a supportive mother who believed in my dreams and assisted me all the time.”
