Coach Ibrahim Tanko (Yemboni) on Friday joined the Black Stars players to the Mosque to observe the Juma’a Prayers ahead of Ghana’s Group H clash against Uruguay.
It was a moment of unity and commitment to the practice of faith when all the 13 Muslims in the Black Stars squad, together with coaches Ibrahim Tanko and Didi Dramani, went out to worship the almighty Allah in congregation, as Islam demands.
Coach Tanko is one of four National Team Coaches sent to Qatar on a working attachment.
Also joining the congregation for the special day was the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Tony Baffoe.
By 11:30 local time, the congratulational salaat was observed, after which players and fans posed for pictures, marking a moment of unity in worship while waiting for an expected glory.
Among the players who made it to the Mosque is Kotoko’s inbrahim Danladi, who is celebrating his birthday today.
The Black Stars will later in the day play against old foes Uruguay at the Al Janoub stadium in a battle for a place in the 1/16 stage
The must-win for both sides comes 12 years after Uruguay controversially defeated Ghana in the quarterfinal stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
A victory against Uruguay will guarantee the Black Stars’ progression to the next round, while Uruguay, who has one point and is bottom of the group, must defeat Ghana by a wide margin and hope group leaders Portugal beat South Korea in the other tie in Group H.
