Bissa Chief of Ashanti Region Chir Osman Salifu Tanko Yamboni will mark his 45th anniversary at the seat of leadership at his palace in Kumasi on Sunday, marking a record-breaking reign as head of the Bissa ethnic group in the region.

The sapphire Jubilee celebration comes as the second biggest Bissa event to be held in the region under his auspices, just five months after hosting the first ever Sukuma festival to celebrate traditions and cultural heritage.

This landmark date this weekend will see a colorful display of Bissa culture to celebrate a milestone as the highly respected traditional ruler hosts a mammoth event at his NZ1 Palace in Sabon Zongo.

It will be a day filled with thanksgiving, a scene of merrymaking in modesty, and a moment of reflection on a journey that dates back to 1978, when he took the reigns of leadership as a young man.

Chir Tanko Yamboni presides over a large Bissa population and remains one of the longest-serving Bissa chiefs in the country.

His reign has seen the region host many important Zekula programs, including the famous Miklin Hotel Congress and the 2018 Bissa Development Association (BDA) elections.

He also spearheaded the establishment of the Ashanti Regional Council of Bissa Chiefs in 2021 and supported a successful campaign to bring many splinter groups under the BDA umbrella that culminated in the celebration of the Sukuma festival in December 2022.

He holds sway in the traditional leaders council in the region and commands great respect in the region’s council of Zongo Chiefs.

With its large Bissa population, the Ashanti region has been very vibrant in the Zekula mission, and Sunday represents another opportunity to celebrate the gains made so far under Chir Tanko Yamboni’s administration.

The day is expected to attract a huge crowd, including chiefs, politicians, government officials, and many other dignitaries from across the county, with majority of Bissas traveling from far and near to be part of the commemoration of a milestone.
