Musician Fancy Gadam has come under fire after making tribalistic comments against the Bissa ethnic group during a radio interview.
Gadam, a Zabarma refugee in Tamale, made the controversial remarks while verbally attacking fellow artist Striker De Donzy, stating that Donzy comes from an unrecognised tribe like the Bissas.
The comments have provoked outrage from Bissa youth groups, who are demanding Gadam retract his statement, issue an apology, or face potential consequences.
Ironically, De Donzy had previously featured Gadam on his song “Asadachi.” While just last month, Gadam enjoyed support from Bissas during a concert in Accra and received wonderful hospitality from Bissas in Kasoa.
It is, however, unclear what caused the “abochi” man to viciously turn on Donzy and drag his entire ethnicity into the vitriol.
While the exact nature of the financial dispute between Gadam and De Donzy is unknown, the tribalistic attack stems from their recent monetary disagreement.
The Bissas say they are restraining themselves from issuing similar attacks on Gadam’s Zabarma tribe in retaliation.
According to reports, Gadam, a Zabarma from Tamale, made the inflammatory comments against De Donzy during a radio interview. His words have been viewed as promoting tribal bigotry and intolerance.
Angered Bissa youth leaders warned that Gadam’s comments could incite ethnic tensions. They called his remarks dangerous, irresponsible, and unacceptable.
As the ethnic group condemns the slur, many are closely watching how Gadam responds to calls for an apology.
