The Greater Accra Bissa FC on Thursday grabbed an automatic 2nd runner up position after being stopped by the Mossis for the second time in the 2nd edition of the Zongo Inter-tribal Gala.
A 4-3 defeat in penalty shootout in their Semi-Final ended the Bissas dream of making it to the Final for the first time.
But they however placed third automatically following the suspension of the Fulanis, who went on rampage after their defeat to the chambers in the other semi final game.
It was a painful mood switch on Thursday as the tournament favorite Bissas were held to a goaless draw only to be followed by another hard luck in the shootout.
But according to Head coach Sani Mohammed Bansie, it has been a good exercise for his boys and hopes to do better next time.
“It’s football, and the purpose is to unearth talents and to a larger extent bring unity amongst us,” he said.
“Though it’s painful to lose to the same team twice in this competition, I willsay it has been good exercise for us.
“Unlike others, we played with full Bissa squad and I m proud of that. At least we in the future get to produce players for the nation.”
The team, ahead of the Semi-Final looked more poised for victory and had received massive boost from the Ali Dabre Palace and the entire Bissa public.
Cash donations from Hajia Ayisha Zerba, the Team manager Faisal Gamel, the Bissa Okada riders group and other individuals had placed team steps ahead of their opponents.
But they were denied the ultimate as a decisive kick to keep the Bissas in contention was rather saved by the Mossi goalkeeper.
According to Coach Bansie, amid the disappointment, it is the show of support for the team will go and long way to make them better in subsequent tasks.
He expressed gratitude to the Bissa fraternity, especially those in Greater Accra for their support.
“The support has been massive, and I am very grateful to the Bissa fraternity, especially those in Greater Accra for their contribution both in cash and in kind,” he said.
“For people like Hajia Ayisha Zerba, our own Team Manager Mr Faisal Gamel, the Bissa Okada riders group and many others, we could apologize and praise them for what they did for us.
“We disappointed them but we hope to do better to bring honour to them next time.”
He further called on other “Bissno” to support the team due to the bragging right the competition comes with.
A total of Twenty teams began competition which started on the 14th of last month.
The Grand Finale comes off on Sunday 13th March at the Kanda Cluster of Schools Park.
