Abdul Azizi Nurudeen made his Accra Hearts of Oak debut in the 2020/21 season on Sunday, contributing to the club’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 22-year-old for the first time this season was handed a starting role under new coach Kosta Papic, and the number 24-shirted boy did not disappoint the thousands who watched the game.
Hearts were searching for their first league win of the season and coach Papic made four changes to the squad that drew with Karela, bringing Nurudeen to take charge of the middle side of the pitch.
Playing as the holding midfielder, it was Nurudeen who initiated the move that fetched the Phobians their first goal as his long pass found Patrick Razak, who equally set striker Obeng Junior on to slot home the lead.
He brought his midfield versatility to the fore as he played the full 90 minutes of the game, combining with teammates to fulfill the dream of grabbing the maximum 3 points.
Since joining the Phobians last season, the left-footed dynamo has played in different roles on the field, but Sunday’s role given him by the Serbian tactician indicates Nurudeen has more to offer the Accra-based side.
It was his first match for the Phobians this season, and it culminated in their first victory in the ongoing league, which is in its fifth week.
He was thick in affairs and marshalled the midfield with key passes and winning duels for the Phobian’s glory, that came in handy to keep their title hopes alive.
Accra Hearts of Oak were simply unstoppable on the day as the dominated every department of the field in either half of the game for the first time.
They had been searching for victory in the one-month-old league, and it came to pass in style under the tutelage of Kosta Papic.
