The Bissa Youth Forum, a branch of the Bissa Development Association, has marked its first anniversary with a call for renewed commitment to youth empowerment.

National Coordinator Abdul Malik Guerni addressed members, highlighting both achievements and obstacles faced since the forum’s launch on International Youth Day last year.

“The establishment of the BYF was, in itself, a crucial accomplishment. We have fulfilled a key mandate of our constitution and created a space for youth participation within our community,” Mr Guerni said.

“Our progress has been slower than anticipated, primarily due to financial constraints and the need to build a robust organisational structure.”

The forum aims to amplify young voices and foster development within the Bissa community. Its motto, “Zekula M’pagna”, meaning unity and strength, has guided their efforts.

This year’s International Youth Day theme aligns with the forum’s goals. Mr Guerni emphasised the need to “bridge the digital divide and ensure our youth are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”

“We recognise that education is the cornerstone of progress and that meaningful employment is crucial for the economic empowerment of our young people,” Mr Guerni stated.

Despite challenges, the coordinator expressed determination. Plans for the coming year include strengthening financial organisation, expanding membership, and developing targeted programmes, calling for community-wide support.

“The Bissa Youth Forum is your platform. It is a space where your voices can be heard, where your ideas can take shape, and where you can make a real difference.”

He said as the Bissa Youth Forum enters its second year, leadership will focus on turning ambitious plans into concrete actions, all while navigating financial and organisational challenges.
