The Bissa Youth Association has donated an amount of 1000 GHS towards the upcoming Sukuma Festival in Greater Accra, emerging as the first group to contribute financially in a show of community spirit and cultural pride.
The donation was received by Shaibu Adam Alale, Chairman of the Greater Accra Bissa Development Association (BDA), and the Regional Women’s Organiser during a brief ceremony held Tuesday at Avenor in Accra.
With just 10 days to go, organisers are on a fundraising mission to ensure the inaugural Greater Accra Sukuma Festival is a resounding success.
This generous contribution marks a significant milestone in the preparations for the festival, scheduled to take place on October 5th—the first of its kind in the Greater Accra region.
Expressing his gratitude, Chairman Alale thanked the group while officially welcoming them to the event, which is expected to bring thousands of Bissas to the Alajo Astroturf.
“Your proactive gesture, which not only provides crucial financial support but also demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of our youth towards preserving and celebrating our rich cultural heritage, deeply touched us,” he said.
“This act of generosity sets a powerful example for other groups within our community. I will take this opportunity to officially invite you to Alajo as we host the Sukuma for the first time.”
He said as the clock ticks down to the October 5th celebration, the organisers are hoping this initial contribution will spark a wave of support from other Bissa groups and well-wishers across the region.
“With just a few days remaining until the festival, we hope this will inspire others to come forward with their support, no matter how small, Alale added.
“Every contribution brings us closer to making this inaugural Sukuma Festival in Greater Accra a resounding success.”
The Sukuma Festival, a cultural gathering for Bissa diaspora communities established in 2022, promises to be a vibrant showcase of Bissa traditions, featuring music, dance, cuisine, and cultural displays.
The Greater Accra event will be held at the Alajo Astro Turf under the auspices of the Greater Accra Council of Bissa Chiefs, led by Kir Salisu Ali Dabre IV.
As preparations intensify in the final days leading up to the festival, the generosity of the Bissa Youth Association has undoubtedly provided a timely boost to both the festival’s finances and morale.
Their actions have set the stage for what promises to be a memorable celebration of Bissa culture in the heart of Ghana’s capital.
