The Bissa Development Association (BDA) has opted to launch the Bissa Women’s Wing on November 19 via Zoom, as it announces an indefinite postponement of the maiden Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference, which was to be held on the day.

The move to postpone the business summit is to allow for the establishment of proper structures within the women’s wing after its formal inauguration.

The launching of the wing and the hosting of the summit were to be held on the same day.

But at a meeting on Saturday, the National Executive Committee (NEC) said it would be better to hold a separate event, of which only the virtual launch on the 19th looks suitable.

“The BDA constitution calls for the establishment of the Women’s Wing, and NEC is committed to doing that,” it said.

“But strong financial muscles and proper arrangements are needed to be able to host these two monumental events.

“We are at a point where the Women’s Commissioner office is still mobilizing women across the country, and that will take some time.”

“We therefore wish to inaugurate the wing on Saturday, November 19th, after which any other capacity-building program for our women will be considered.”

The NEC’s decision had a unanimous endorsement from all members, and according to the Women’s Commissioner, Madam Dora Kulariba, her office will work harder to ensure more Bissa Women across the country get registered to be members of the wing.

“The upcoming activity at the entrepreneur conference would have given us the big platform to sell ourselves and get to see each other maybe for the first time and have an in-house meeting.”

“As we are all aware, it has been discouraged due to a lack of funds, but we still need to define ourselves and take all the opportunity to create awareness and publicity of our existence.”

BDA Chairman Shaibu Musah Gutare Zanni will officially launch the Women’s Wing as part of his administration’s effort to strengthen the structures of the association as demanded by the constitution.

Saturday’s lunch is the second program to be held virtually by the BDA, and thousands are expecting to join the link, which is to be shared on the day.
