The Bissa Development Association (BDA) is set to launch the Bissa Women’s Wing during an upcoming Bissa Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit on November 19.

A collective of powerful Bissa Women, successful CEOs, and talented game changers make up the Women’s Wing, which is to be given formal recognition on a day set aside to celebrate women’s entrepreneurship across the world.

It will serve as an established female group within the Association and come under the auspices of the Women’s Commission (WOCOM).

It forms part of a strategic plan to empower women within the Bissa fraternity under the Gutare-Zanni administration.

“The launch will be backed by a moment of deliberations that will contribute to strengthening the message that gender equality and women’s empowerment are the most important undertaking for our societies, economies, and the international community,” officials say.

“Like every part of the world, we are convinced that women entrepreneurs in the Bissa fraternity can drive economic growth, if we are enabled to realise our rights and work in partnership with businesses, government and civil society to improve opportunities and outcomes in global value chains, and this is exactly what this summit is about,” BDA Women’s Commissioner Madam Dora Kulariba said.

It’s time to demonstrate that our quest for economic empowerment is achievable when we turn our eyes to gender balance in the management and workforce within our own society, from which we can empower our young women as managers, traders, suppliers, producers, and consumers in a manner that will generate and drive the exponential growth of our businesses.

“This is the time to look at our own entrepreneurs for inspiration and guidance where it is needed most, from which we can protect girls and women by equipping skilled, local staff to offer training, education, counseling, medical care, small business loans, and other programs that empower women and girls.”

A separate WhatsApp page has already been established to organise more women under the wing and more than 70 participants have so far joined the platform ahead of the November 19th inauguration summit.

According to Madam Dorah, various committees have been formed to look at the best way of organising the event, which is the first of its kind.

She said the committees have been tasked with looking at a suitable venue for the event that will serve as a feather in the cap of the current administration of the BDA.

“We are looking at having a successful program on the day,” she said.

“It is all about women, but we expect the men to come and lend their support to this programme, which will be the first of its kind in our “Zekula agenda.”

She said she expects to see more women come onboard with their expertise to establish a strong female side for the BDA.
