The leadership of the Bissa fraternity on Sunday paid a visit to the MP for Ejura-Sekyedumase Hon.Mohammed Bawah Braimah “to sympathise” with him after he was physically attacked and wounded by “political opponents”.

The visit by the Bissa top brass comes days after the MP survived the physical assault, which is belived to have been orchestrated by his main opponent in the December 2020 election, Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba.

Hon. Bawah Braimah, who is the former MCE of Ejura, was ambushed earlier this month while on his way to some communities in the constituency to monitor the ongoing voter registration exercise.

He was beaten by the alleged NPP thugs as he was distributing food to his party agents at Kasei Nkwanta, one of the registration centres, suffering varied injuries including a broken toe and was rushed to the Kasei Government Hospital for treatment.

Hon. Bawah Braimah had a broken toe from the attack

But a statement by the five-member committee from the Ashanti region, who embarked on the visit on behalf of the Bissa fraternity, indicates, the honourable member is recuperating .

“On behaif of the Lemagan, the Bissa Study Group, the Bissa Development Association and the entire Bissas of Ghana a 5 member committee from the Ashanti Region led by the BDA chairman Mr.Martin Azamah has paid a visit to Hon.Mohammed Bawah Braimah the Mp for Ejura,” it said.

“Hon Bawah was physically attacked and wounded a couple of weeks a go by his political opponents.

“The visit was to sympathies with him as a brother.Thank God he is fine and kicking.

“May the Almighty continue to guide and protect him as well as our brothers who are also contesting for parliamentary seats in their constituencies. Bissa woo Bissan.”

The attack on the NDC MP has received a widespread condemnation from Ghanaians as it has already created tensions among the two parties in the constituency, with honourable  Bawa’s supporters vowing to retaliate.

The NDC earlier issued a week ultimatum to the police to arrest some individuals they had accused of being behind the brutal attack.

The opposition party accused the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) who doubles as the NPP parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Sualisu Bamba of engineering the attack.

Hon Bawa Braimah has been Parliament since 2017 and serves in both the Public Account Committee of the house and Defence and Interior Committee.

WHY THERE IS CHAOS IN EJURA OVER THE PARLIAMENTARY SEAT

Political situation in the constituency remains precarious since the commencement of the new voter registration, with the NDC accusing the NPP of busing people from Kumasi and other places to get them registered at constituency in an attempt to increase its chances of wrestling the seat from the NDC.

The battle for the Ejura-Skyedumase seat promises to be a fierce contest between the two candidates, who only swapped positions after the 2016 election.

It is a contest between a current MP and former MP, which equally doubles as a battle between a former DCE and current DCE, respectively

Hon. Bawah Braimah, who joined Parliament after winning the seat from NPP’s Salisu Bamba in the 2016 election, had served as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejura Sekyedumase between 2013 and January 2017.

His opponent Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba, who is the current MCE, is promising to snatch the seat again from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), after a narrow defeat in 2016.

The Ejura-Skyedumase seat happens to be one of only two seats in the hands of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, which is the biggest stronghold of the NPP.
