This year’s celebration looked quite different as the ban on social gatherings is still in operation, as the country battles the coronavirus.
Traditionally the festival at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan is marked with communal prayers in mosques, visits to friends and family.
But the Muslim community in the country had to celebrate it virtually in observance to the measures that have been brought in to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
On the occasion, the President of the Council of Bissa Chiefs Alhaj Muhammad Ali Dabre III together with the Council of Bissa Ulama’u hailed the muslims for successfully going through the month-long Ramadan fast and called for Allah’s forgiveness on both the living and “all our gone souls”.
“On this joyous day of Eid-ul-Fitr, we wish you and your family a very happy Eid. May Allah accept all Our prayers and forgive all Our sins and all Our gone Souls,” read the statement issued on his behalf.
In cities such as Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale, bissanewsonline gathered that most Muslims adhered to call, observing the festival at home, observing the social distancing protocol, which has proven to be one of the effective tools of fighting the dreaded virus that has already killed 31 in Ghana.
The special Eid al-Fitr prayers are typically among the best attended of the year, and people also mark the occasion by holding parties.
The pandemic has already crushed the organisation of the annual zekula festival, which was slated in April, but the Bissa leadership prays for the intervention of the God.
“May We live to see the next Ramadan,” the statement read.
“May Allah come to our aid as the Covid 19 is currently ravaging the world.”
The following is the full Eid message issued by the Bissa leadership
