The Bissa Development Association (BDA) has announced plans to recognize and honor the top financiers of the 2024 Zekula Festival in a move to appreciate their efforts and encourage others to emulate their support in building stronger cultural institutions within the Bissa community.
Kir Suallah Saeed Sare, the Bissa Chief of New Weija and New Bortianor, Lawyer Musah Ahmed Gambo, and Alhaji Mohammed Bina of Bina Woo Companies are set to receive special recognition from the BDA following their huge financial contributions to the festival, which was in its 20th milestone.
This recognition comes in the wake of the successful Zekula Festival held in May 2024 in Kulungungu, which saw significant support from these individuals, among others, contributing to its resounding success and cultural impact.
BDA National Chairman, Alhaji Shaibu Musa Guatre Zanni, Esq., emphasized the importance of recognizing these contributions.
“Our culture thrives on the generosity and commitment of our people,” he stated.
“By honoring those who have gone above and beyond in their support, we hope to inspire others to join in preserving and promoting our rich Bissa traditions.”
The association plans to present awards to these three individuals in a ceremony that not only celebrates their generosity but also highlights the critical role of community support in maintaining cultural practices.
“We believe that by shining a light on these acts of cultural philanthropy, we can encourage more of our financially capable members to step forward,” added Chairman Guatre. “This is about more than just money; it’s about investing in our identity and future as Bissa people.”
The BDA sees this recognition as a step towards building more robust and sustainable cultural institutions.
By fostering a culture of giving and active participation, the association hopes to ensure that festivals like Zekula continue to thrive for generations to come.
Details of the award ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks, with the BDA encouraging all members of the Bissa community to attend and show their support for these cultural champions.
This initiative marks a new chapter in the BDA’s efforts to strengthen community engagement, encourage financial support for cultural events, and ensure the longevity of Bissa traditions.”
It is a move not only to show appreciation but also to create role models for others to emulate, potentially leading to a more robust support system for cultural activities in the future.
