The Bissa Develoment Association has paid for the cost of extra classes fees for some 36 Bissa students in the  Bawku Senior High School preparing for the WASSCE 2021.

It comes after an appeal was presented to the Association by Mr Abdul Fatawu Tijani Gambor, a mathematics tutor in the school and the brain behind the programme.

He had attended the BDA’s Reorganisation and Sensitisation Program last month in Bawku and decided to inform the NEC about the exercise.

The final year students are being taken through special techniques in exams in English, Mathematics and Science as part of preparation for the WASSCE which began last two months. The students also benefited from the experience shared by a seasoned examiner who is one of our own ( name withheld).

An amount of GHC720.00 being the cost for English and Science has been approved to be paid to the English and Science tutors who are non Bissas.

On his part, Mr. Gambor, who is the Maths tutor and a Bissa, did not charge for his services.

“He started teaching the Bissa students on his own for the past two months without charging a fee,” BDA Chairman Gutare Zanni noted.

“The BDA has therefore decided to recognize him in a special way at a later date.”

The 2021 WASSCE began on  16th August  with Project Works on Ceramics and Sculpture,  and will be completed on 8th October with with Physics Practicals, Ceramics Essay and  Lettering & Design.

But test in the  4 Core subjects began with the Oral English, which was written on 1st August.

The  36 final year students are part of the Bissa Student Association of Bawku Senior High  School.

Students are slated to write the English Language, Mathematics and  Science, three of the four core subjects considered the main determinants of one’s success in moving to the next stage of the academic ladder.

They will sit for the English Language on 13th September, followed by Core Mathematics on the 20th, before they deal with integrated Science on 6th October.

As part of the developmental agenda of the Bissa fraternity, the BDA in its goal 4 talks about improving education of Bissa students, especially those in the Bissa belt which is captured as follows:

Improve falling standards of education in the Bissa Belt and Promote Bissa Education.

A) BDA to organise at least one mock exams for all JHS schools within the Bissa belt yearly.

B) BDA award scheme to instituted for best Bissa male and Female in every year BECE exams. Same for Bissa Children in the SHS within the Bissa belt.

C) BDA to liase with school heads to introduce mid term exams for JHS schools within the Bissa belt

D) BDA customized discounted exercise books for selected schools yearly.

H) Will help organise extra classes for BECE candidates in the Bissa belt.

NEC has also appealed to all to do their best in their own small way to support the Bissa cause.

Chairman Gutare further noted that even though proper regional/ Zonal structures are needed to be able to support the implementation of the various goals, the sacrificial initiative by Mr. Gambor cannot be allowed to be waisted without the support of the BDA.
