The Bissa Development Association (BDA) has begun touring the country for its Sensitisation and Reorganisation of regional bodies, beginning with the Ashanti region.
The Chairman of the National Executive Committee (NEC) Mr Shaibu Musah Gutare Zanni on Sunday 11th July, met with the membership of the region at Kumasi Cultural Centre to begin the exercise, which is to be carried in phases.
The exercise, which is in line with Gutare Zanni- led administration’s proposed implementation of the Strategic Plan, was launched last month.
Six regions have been earmarked to be sensitised and tasked to begin registration of members.
Sunday’s went very well, with the executives promising to continue their registration of members.
The Kumasi event that saw the full participation of some Bissa students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who have pledged to support the growth of the association.
An important highlight of the occasion was that the day was also used by BDA Ashanti branch to train their members on how to produce quality shower gels.
The vocational training was an initiative of the Chairman, Mr. Abdul Rauf who himself is the trainer.
Accordingly to the Ashanti regional Executives, they also have plans to train their members in liquid soap production, yoghurt among others, an idea the NEC has adopted and assured to inculcate into Goal 5 of the Strategic Plan, which deals with economic empowerment and wealth creation.
In the BDA’s Strategic Plan, any region that can register (name, phone number and location) up to 50 Bissas who pay at least GHc1.00 or any of the benefits scheme dues category will be inaugurated by NEC.
It also requires that existing regional structures must show records of registered members of up to 50 and dues payment to qualify for fresh elections to be organized.
Upon attaining at least 50 members in good standing, NEC will within 3 months, open nomination for the various positions and advertise for interested members to contest. Leadership at the regions should as much as possible include persons from potential zonal areas.
After inauguration, regional executives are to within one month, submit their proposed zonal structures to NEC for approval
The Electoral College will be made up of members who are registered with their phone numbers and location as well as being dues paying members for at least 3 months preceding the elections within their regions.
