The Bissa Development Association (BDA) has conveyed its deep appreciation to the various sponsors and organizations that supported the successful celebration of the annual Zekula festival held on Saturday May 4.
The town of Kulungungu, the cultural capital of the Bissa people in Ghana, was a vibrant hub of festivities as the community came together for the annual Zekula festival.
This year marked the 20th edition of the festival and it lived up to its billing
Over 100 donors, comprising individuals, institutions and organizations within the Bissa fraternity offered their contributions to finance the event, showing strong commitment towards protecting their heritage to project the brand.
In his address during the festival held on May 4th at the Bissa capital of Kulungungu, BDA Chairman Shaibu Musa Gutare Zanni extended profound gratitude to the contributors who made the pinnacle cultural event possible.
While individuals like Lawyer Musah Ahmed and Alhaji Mohammed Bina of Bina Woo Company were hugely recognized, occupants of Bissa palaces such as Kir Mustapha Lengani and Kir Suallah Saeed Sari were also praised for their support.
“I wish, in a big way, to recognize the efforts of our sponsors – Lawyer Musah Ahmed of Accra, Alhaji Mohammed Bina (Bina Woo Company) of Wa, and the Bissa Christian Fellowship International,” stated Zanni.
He also thanked the various BDA regional branches, platform groups, other BDA organs like the Women’s Wing, Youth Forum, and regional and zonal branches such as Northern, Ashanti Region, and the Madina Zone, as well as all those who contributed in diverse ways towards the festival’s success.
“We are also deeply grateful to all other sponsors who contributed financially and in-kind to make this festival a resounding success.”
The Zekula festival, a paramount celebration for the Bissa people of Ghana, drew an impressive crowd of over 10,000 participants this year. Held at the Bissa cultural capital of Kulungungu, the vibrant event showcased the rich heritage of this community.
Alongside expressing gratitude to sponsors, Zanni acknowledged the tireless efforts of the organizing committee spearheaded by Aliu Mohammed Bawure, a BDA National Executive Committee member. He lauded the Council of Bissa Chiefs in Bissaku, the Bissa Ledinni group, Bissa Belt group, BDA platform members, and volunteers who selflessly served on various sub-committees.
“Allow me to acknowledge the organizing committee led by Mr. Aliu Mohammed Bawure, a member of the National Executive Committee of BDA, the Council of Bissa Chiefs in the Bissaku area, the Bissa Ledinni group, the Bissa Belt group, members of the various BDA platforms, for their tireless efforts and support that made this event possible,” he said.
“To all volunteers on the sub-committees, we are extremely grateful,” Zanni stated. The Zekula festival, a cherished annual tradition, celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Bissa people through vibrant displays of music, dance, and traditional practices. This year’s celebration was a resounding success, drawing an impressive crowd of over 10,000 participants from across the region.
