Imam’s aunt Hajia Saudatu , popularly known as Mai waakye, died last week, leaving behind blessed children to serve the society, ranging from Islamic scholars to administrators, teacher and doctors.
She is the mother to Dr. Sadia, who is the MD of Komfo Anokye a Teaching Hospital.
The hard working mother used to sell Waakye at KNUST campus in the 80’s and 90’s and was regarded as the best in those era, earning her the title “Mai Waakye”.
Hajia Saudatu is the elder sister of Imam Bashir’s mother Hajia Zainabu Banga.
It was however a wonderful display of zekula in a sombre situation, when the high-powered BANA executive arrived at the NJ residence of Imam Bashir to mourn with him in such difficult times.
Accompanied by his secretary Sheikh Tayyib and Bissah chief of NJ, the Bissa Chief NJ Alhaji Ibrahim Adams, the BANA president’s visit to the bereaved Imam is in line with both Bissa and Islamic traditions.
Expressing his condolences, President Alfat Yusif prayed for the dead and urged the bereaved family to “remain strong in these trying moments”.
“We ask Allah to shower his infinite mercy upon Hajia Saudatu and bless her with Jannatul Firdaus,” he said.
In her honour, Sheikh Tayyib added that the children Hajia Saudatu left behind signify the true definition of the prophet (SAW)’s saying that “he will be proud of the ummah on the day of judgement”.
