The Ashanti Region branch of the Bissa Development Association (BDA) has added its name to the growing list of donors supporting the 2024 Zekula Celebration in Kulungungu, contributing a generous sum of GHS 3000 for Saturday’s milestone.
As the traditional Bissa Capital braces to host this landmark event, such vital financial assistance from Bissa organisations holds immense significance.
Inhabiting the Ashanti heartlands yet keeping their ancestral roots alive, the regional BDA branch underscored their commitment through this monumental donation.
“Our heritage resonates profoundly, and Zekula stands as the ultimate cultural canvas to showcase our vibrant Bissa traditions,” remarked the branch Secretary Zakari Ayaba.
“We could not miss this opportunity to be part of preserving our rich customs for future generations. Zekula@20 will be a spectacle to behold.”
An appeal for crowdfunding support had been initiated by the principal organizers, casting a wide net across Bissa communities nationwide and beyond borders. The clarion call didn’t go unanswered, as evinced by the Ashanti Region BDA’s weighty GHS 3000 contribution.
With this donation, the Ashanti Region branch becomes the biggest financial contributor among the BDA branches.
From its inception in 2004, Zekul stepped in as Upper East’s biggest cultural extravaganza, annually drawing over 10,000 participants – including Bissas making the pilgrimage from neighboring nations. More than revelry, it’s a homecoming reaffirming intergenerational connections to the community’s storied ancestry.
As donated funds coalesce, Zekula@20 takes shape as a grand spectacle – traditional dances, cuisine, music, the entire cultural kaleidoscope finds vibrant expression. Kulungungu, the Bissa capital, prepares to dazzle as an unforgettable experience for attendees near and far is curated.
The Zekula celebration also presents an economic boon for local vendors and smock sellers who will be taking advantage of the massive crowds to showcase and sell their wares.
The influx of thousands into Kulungungu creates a bustling market scene as visitors seek to purchase traditional attire, handicrafts and culinary delights as mementos.
