The Maiden Bissa Sukuma 2022 has been launched in Kumasi as Bissas prepare to celebrate the festival of togetherness in the Ashanti Regional capital next month.
The Jubilee Park in Kumasi will host the colorful event on the 26th of December, and it will be a day packed with glitz and glamor as the Bissas make a huge announcement of their presence in the Ashante Region.
The launching of the event at Mossi Zongo Park attracted a great number of dignitaries from the Bissa fraternity, including the National Chairman of the Bissa Development Association (BDA), Alhaji Shaibu Musa Gutare, who was the guest of honor.
Sunday’s launch witnessed a scintillating performance by Bissa music icon, Zulahatu Yabubu Bancy, known in showbiz as Star Gyal, who composed a special song for the Sukuma festival.
The establishment of the Sukuma festival, which is the first of its kind, is a move by the Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs, the Ashanti BDA, and other splinter associations to unite under one umbrella in building a stronger fraternity for development.
It is in line with the Bissa Development Association’s directive for all regions to celebrate the Sokuma festival, as the bigger Zekula is solely left for the traditional capital of Kulungungu.
The Ashanti region thus becomes the first to celebrate the Sukuma festival as 2022 nears an end.
The Ashanti Bissa Sukuma 2022 marks the end of the separate celebration of the mini Zekula Festival, which has led to some fractured relationships among Bissas in the region.
And it equally marks the beginning of bringing everyone under the BDA umbrella, following a huge role played by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to unite Bissas.
The December 26 festival promises to be an action-packed event in which the rich Bissa culture will be displayed, with other tribal chiefs and government officials expected to grace the occasion.
