The National Chairman for the Bissa Development Association (BDA) has urged Bissas to come in their numbers to celebrate the upcoming Ashanti Bissa Sokuma Festival after attending the event’s launch in Kumasi.
Scheduled for December 26, the Ashante Bissa Sukuma festival comes as a tool for reconciliation and strengthening ties among Bissas in the region and beyond.
It is a colorful program put together by the Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs, the Ashanti BDA, and the Bissa people in Ashanti to unite the Bissa front in the region.
And it is in line with the National Executive Committee’s earlier directives for various regions to celebrate Zekula Poore or Sukuma.
Giving his recount of the launch held at Mossi Zongo on November 6, Chairman Gutare concurred that “the rich Bissa culture will be displayed in various forms” on the day.
“In line with NEC’s earlier directives for various regions to celebrate Zekula Poore or Sukuma, I joined the Ashanti BDA, together with respected members of the Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs, to launch Ashanti Bissa Sukuma scheduled for Sunday, December 26, 2022, at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi,” the chairman said in his report.
“On behalf of the Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs, the Ashanti BDA, and the Bissa people in Ashanti, we officially invite every Bissa everywhere to save the date and come in their numbers to support us celebrate Ashanti Sukuma 2022 in grand style.”

LAUNCH OF ASHANTI BISSA SUKUMA 2022
Fellow Kinsmen and women, at the invitation of the Ashanti Region BDA, I joined our brothers and sisters in the region on Sunday 6th November, 2022 to launch the Ashanti Sukuma 2022.
As we may recall, BDA presence in Ashanti has been very low despite the many Bissa communities within the region. Some attempt was made to reverse this trend by various Bissa groups within the region notably, Bissa bi yaan and Bissa ti norgor groups. Their good intentions were however marred by disunity, leading to the performance of separate Zekula programmes in November and December, 2021.
NEC with the support of the vibrant Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs managed to reconcile the various groups under the umbrella of the BDA.
In line with NEC’s earlier directives for various regions to celebrate Zekula Poore or Sukuma, I joined the Ashanti BDA, together with respected members of the Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs to launch Ashanti Bissa Sukuma scheduled for SUNDAY 26TH DECEMBER, 2022 AT THE JUBILEE PARK, KUMASI.
Ashanti Bissa Sukuma promises to be the largest gathering of the Bissa Chiefs and people within Ashanti and beyond. Government and other tribal delegations will also grace the occasion. The rich Bissa culture will be displayed in various forms.
The launch which took place at Moshie Zongo park on 6th November, 2022 witnessed trilling performance by Bissa music icon, Star Gyal who composed a special song for the Sukuma 2022 programme. I also took the opportunity as Chairman to appeal for peace in our home town of Bawku during an interview with the media after the programme.
On behalf of Ashanti Region Council of Bissa Chiefs and Ashanti BDA and the Bissa people in Ashanti, we officially invite every Bissa everywhere to save the date and come in your numbers to support us celebrate Ashanti Sukuma 2022 in grand style.
