Former National Organiser of the Bissa Development Association (BDA) Alhaji Uthman Issaka Nombre (Weapon) has received a Posthumous award from the Gomoa Nyanyano Bissa Chief following his service and loyalty to the Bissa course.
The citation from Kir Abdallah Zakari Bayire was in recognition of the late Issaka Nombre’s “leadership and guidance” which has “impacted positively” in the development and transformation of Bissas in the region.
It comes 3 months after his shocking death on his birthday of 27th November.
The former Gateway Chief at the Ali Dabre Palace, was famous for his exceptional mobilisation skills, and was a strong campaigner for Bissa unity across the world.
He served under both the Greater Accra and Central regional council of Bissa Elders until his demise.
The passionate Nombre man single-handedly, under his multitasking capacity, travelled across the country to encourage Bissas to come under the BDA umbrella.
He died on 27th of November last year and his honour from the Central Region came on Saturday 26th of February under the leadership of his bossom friend Kir Abdallah Zakari Bayire.
At an event to mark his 5th anniversary celebration, Kir Bayiri payed a glowing tribute to the fallen hero.
He was among some ten individuals who each received a citation at the prayer-filled event.
It was however a sombre moment at the forecourt of the Point 4 Nyanyano Palace when members of the Nombre clan stepped out to receive the award on behalf of their late brother.
His younger brother, Imam Hassan Uthman, who is the Greater Accra Bissa Imam, was presented with the award which recognises the late loyalist’s contribution to Bissa Developmental agenda in the Gomoa Nyanyano.
The citation read : “It was pleasure working with you, your departure is greatly felt. Your leadership and guidance has greatly impacted positively to the progressively Bissa Development in the Gomoa Nyanyano and you will never be forgotten. Thank you for being the life of our team, a great teammate and even a better friend. May Allah be pleased with your departed soul.”
Issaka Nombre had spoken movingly about his willingness to “die for Bissa” but it was his unexpected demise on 27th November that remains a shock to both his family and friends.
A school project has already been earmarked in his name to honour the man whose life inspired thousands of youth in joining the Bissa Unity train.
Alhaji Issaka Uthman Nombre was one of the five executive members of the BDA, who were elected by popular acclaimation in 2021, after facing no contest in their respective positions.
He nicknamed himself “Honourable Alhaji Weapon” and he continues getting honoured even after his death.
