Alhaji Bina Yembone installed as new Bissa Chief of Wa

Alhaji Muhammed Seidu Bina Yembone, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, has been installed as the new Bissa chief in Wa, the capital of Ghana’s Upper West Region.

It comes after a three-year vacancy in the position for which the Bissa community had been seeking a worthy successor to uphold their cultural heritage and advance community interests.

The formal installation was conducted by the Overlord of the Waala State at his palace, with a subsequent coronation held at Alhaji Bina’s residence.

Sunday’s event was marked by vibrant traditional performances, with Bissa drummers and dancers displaying their rich cultural heritage.

Local praise singers recited the history and achievements of the Bissa people, while traditional “konni” players announced each segment of the ancient installation rites.

From a pool of four nominated candidates, Alhaji Bina emerged as the unanimous choice, with all other nominees endorsing his selection based on his proven leadership abilities and dedication to community welfare.

Alhaji Bina, known locally for his enterprise “Bina Woo,” was adorned in traditional Bissa Fugu attire and accompanied by his wife during the enskinment ceremony. The formal installation was conducted by the Overlord of the Waala State at his palace, with a subsequent coronation held at Alhaji Bina’s residence.

He is a respected member of the Bissa Development Association, where he has been a significant contributor to community programmes. His influence extends throughout Wa, where he has earned widespread respect across ethnic lines through his philanthropic works and business acumen.

His selection as chief was widely celebrated within the community, given his reputation for fostering unity and his extensive track record of supporting development initiatives. His modest demeanour, coupled with his commitment to community service, made him the natural choice for the prestigious position.

The installation ceremony drew notable guests, including the National Chairman of the Bissa Development Association, Lawyer Shaibu Musah Gutare Zanni.

Members of the Wala, Dagaaba, and other ethnic groups joined in the celebrations, highlighting the strong inter-ethnic bonds in the region.

Although Wa is traditionally home to the Wala people, it hosts a substantial Bissa community that has integrated well into the city’s fabric, contributing to both local and national development.

Alhaji Bina, described as a unifier and a man of few words, is known for his charitable works across Ghana.

His installation represents a further expansion of Bissa influence in the country, where the ethnic group is respected for their reputation for hard work, honesty, and peaceful coexistence.
