Bissa’s Abdul Majeed Omar begins 2023 on high note with Italian U23 Long Jump Title

Omar jumped a distance of 7.50m to clinch an impressive victory

Abdul Majeed Omar, a Bissa-born Italian athlete, kicked off his 2023 track and field season in a triumphant fashion by capturing gold in the long jump at the Italian U23 Indoor Championships on February 4th.

The 23-year-old soared to an impressive mark of 7.50 metres to top the podium in the first competition of the year.

He also placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 15.14m a day later.

Omar’s championship-winning leap of 7.50m in the Long Jump bested silver medalist Jacopo Quarratesi’s jump of 7.46m. Leonardo Pini rounded out the podium with a mark of 7.43m.

The Atletico Firenze Marathon club used their Facebook page to congratulate Omar after his impressive feat

For Omar, the national U23 title represents a promising start as he looks to build a successful career that will see  him frequently place among the top long jumpers in domestic competitions.

The early-season victory highlights his quick development into one of Italy’s brightest long jump prospects.

With this first triumph under his belt in 2023, Omar will look to maintain his form over the coming months as he competes across Italian Grand Prix meetings and championships.

The ambitious jumper has set his sights on qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics and European Championships. And has more competitions in the year, including the Florence Sprint Festival in May.
