Basintale confirmed as Ghana Immigration Service chief

President John Mahama has sworn in Samuel Basintale Amadu as Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service.

It comes nearly a year after he was appointed in an acting capacity, with a mandate to strengthen border controls and accelerate the digitalisation of immigration services.

At a ceremony at the Jubilee House, President Mahama said the Service must provide decisive leadership in safeguarding the country’s borders and improving migration management systems.

He urged Mr Basintale to uphold discipline and professionalism within the ranks and to enhance institutional performance in response to emerging security threats, irregular migration and transnational crime.

The president also called for closer collaboration with other security agencies and greater use of technology to modernise border operations.

Mr Basintale said he would work with officers and partner institutions to strengthen operational efficiency and maintain high professional standards.

DCOI Basintale, who was born in Bawku in the Upper East Region on April 17, 1972, joined the Ghana Immigration Service on September 1, 1993.

As a founding member of the Africa FRONTEX Intelligence Community and a certified Interpol Trainer, he brings significant international experience to address growing regional security challenges amid the reset agenda by the new administration.

His confirmation comes as Ghana continues broader reforms aimed at improving border management and reinforcing national security systems.
